Google's Page reportedly peeved about Samsung's smartwatch strategy

Google CEO Larry Page has reportedly confronted Samsung over its preference for smartwatches running Tizen software, rather than Android Wear.

According to The Information website, Page and Samsung chairman Jay Y. Lee held tense talks at a private meeting last week.

The report claims Page voiced his frustration that Samsung was investing more in devices like the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit rather than the new Gear Live running Android Wear.

The Google CEO reportedly told the Samsung official he would prefer the company to switch their focus to Android Wear because of its compatibility with a greater range of Android devices.

Contentious

Any tensions in the wearables market would mirror those Samsung and Google have experienced over the range of Galaxy smartphones down the years.

Google has long wanted Samsung to halt the heavy customisation of Android and quit developing apps that rival those built into the Android OS.

Samsung, of course, is using Tizen as a means to lessen its reliance on Google and Android.

Trouble in paradise? You'd better believe it.
