Introducing an ECG monitor on the Apple Watch 4 made it clear the company plans to make its smartwatch into a full-blown health device, and a future upgrade may see the device start monitoring asthma too.
According to a report from CNBC, Apple has bought a startup called Tueo Health that has been working on tracking asthma symptoms in children by using a mobile app.
LinkedIn profiles for senior members of staff at the company switched to say they were working for Apple late last year, so it's likely that's when the purchase occurred, meaning Apple may have been working on the feature for some time.

Previously Tueo Health was developing an app that would connect to third-party asthma monitors and warn parents when a child's asthma attack may be imminent.
Exactly how Apple may implement these sorts of features onto a new version of the Apple Watch is unclear, but considering how the company has been focusing on health related upgrades it would make sense for a future Apple Watch.
It may just be that Apple is bringing Tueo's asthma monitoring functionality into the Apple Health app, but we wouldn't be surprised if Apple also adds new sensors or other hardware to a future wearable to help it monitor your breathing better.
It should be a worthwhile upgrade considering 339 million people around the world suffer from asthma, according to The Global Asthma Report 2018.
We're expecting to hear about the Apple Watch 5 in September this year, but we may hear all about upgrades coming in watchOS 6 at WWDC 2019, which is set to kick off on June 3.
