Swatch to take action against Apple over iWatch brand

Swatch to take action against Apple over iWatch brand

Swiss watchmaker Swatch is considering 'taking action' against Apple over its iWatch trademark, which it says is too similar to its 'iSwatch' brand.

In an interview with Businessweek, Swatch chief executive Nick Hayek explained that Swatch has spoken to the relevant authorities in all countries where the iWatch has been registered as a trademark.

Hayek didn't say which countries has been contacted and when the measures had started, but he did point out that there were no plans to take Apple to court.

"If somebody wants to register a name that is too close to a name that we have protected, we fight against it," Hayek said to Businessweek.

Apple hasn't officially announced its wearable technology, despite much speculation. It also refused to respond to Hayek's comments.
