Amazon will reportedly stop selling Apple TV and Chromecast

Amazon will reportedly stop selling Apple TV and Google Chromecast this month.

An email Amazon sent to sellers details the company's plan to stop offering Apple and Google's streaming devices, according to Bloomberg Business. Amazon apparently won't allow new listings for the products to go up and will take down listings already on the site by October 29.

Amazon currently sells Apple TV and the first Chromecast (Google announced Chromecast 2 on Tuesday), but it cites concerns about the quality of Prime Video on the rival devices as the reason for the sales stoppage.

Noting in the email that Prime Video "has become an important part of Prime," Amazon wants all the streaming media players it sells to "interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion."

Amazon will continue to sell Roku, Xbox and PlayStation, the company said, as these products work with Prime Video. The Amazon Fire TV Stick is sticking around, too.

If the email is authentic and Amazon goes through with its plan, it's making a mighty power move to shut out streaming products from two of its biggest - if not the biggest - rivals. Worrying about Prime Video quality comes off as a thin excuse to boot Apple TV and Chromecast from its online market place.

We've asked Amazon for comment on its reported plan and will update this story when we hear back.
